Hi,

I guess the main thing is for our future is the ability to learn.

Here is an excellent way to teach critical thinking - the link at the bottom of this comment is about A professor who teaches his students skepticism by instructing them to create hoaxes with the web as their laboratory.

"He wanted his students to become more skeptical readers, better fact-checkers, and astute historians. He wanted them to understand the systems by which people create and preserve fact—and, yes, the flaws in some of those systems"

I agree with you - Critical and analytical skills are not as natural as intuitive skills and that in a more independent and DIY world there is a need to spend time developing this.

Its like the old story of giving someone a fish and they can eat for a day but teach them how to fish and they can eat for life.

However, lets not get hung up on just one set of skills - I'd hate our future generation to be just critical thinkers - lets also develop soft skills as well - I argue for balance in an the "opposable mind" - crossing the corpus callsum can seem like crossing a chasm.

Lets also develop

Experimentation, Curiosity, creativity and Imagination
Initiative and Entrepreneurialism
Communication and Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence
Agility and Adaptability
